This is a pivotal position within a global business, commanding a high level of respect and expectation. You will be an expert in the field of Controls & Automation - including advanced Baggage Handling Systems. You will report to the UK Board and VP for B.D/Sales & Marketing. Strong leadership skills required to manage a team of proposal contributors to include engineers, program managers, finance and contracting reps. You will have advanced experience of such. As the lead in all bid and tendering work, you will be used to high level customer communication, relationship development, deadline pressure with the occasional weekend and extended hour commitments. This can, very occasionally mean extensive hours in a day. The role requires: · Extraordinary attention to detail a must as proposals can be deemed "non-compliant" for even the smallest of administrative infractions. · The ability to act simultaneously as a "Coach, Commandant & Cheerleader" to ensure all proposal submissions are submitted on time with a high win probability. · Familiarity with the most "arms-length" of procurement regulations (i.e., federal and state governments, international, aerospace and defense Prime Contractors). · A strategic thinker working with the Capture Manager to develop win themes, teaming strategies, investment priorities, etc., in order to maximize win ratios. · The experience to help leaders with "Gate Reviews" as part of the proposal process (i.e., Bid / No-bid decisions, etc.). · Ability to estimate and control bid & proposal costs. · Experience with selecting and managing outside resources such as Tech Editors, Graphics Artists, Consultants, Teammates & Key Solution Providers. The Head of Bids & Proposals: - Manages entire proposal development and creation process and provides lead role in identifying and tracking tenders, developing bid strategy in cooperation with sales personnel, distributors and senior and executive management. - Maintains and manages, when required, direct interface and communications with customers and distributors relative to specific sales opportunities to ensure proposals are responsive to customer expectations and tender requirements, final submission dates. Responsible for coordinating responses to follow-up requests. - Complies with and analyzes department metrics to insure compliance with operating procedures, work instructions and ISO operating standards. - Ensures on-time submittal of fully compliant responses to tenders issued by domestic and international customers, including both government and commercial entities. - Works closely with finance, sales, product line managements, engineering, customer service, program managements, quality assurance and other departments across the organization to obtain required input for proposals to ensure compliance with tenders. - Follows product development activities and maintains familiarity with the company's products and their features, performance, operating parameters, technical specifications, installation requirements, integration issues and other technical matters applicable to preparing competitive proposals. - Coordinates interface and communications with international agencies and trade organizations, to obtain advocacy and problem solving assistance in opening markets and resolving trade disputes to foreign government tenders, as required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required. Ten (10) plus years experience required writing, preparing and managing domestic and/or international proposals, preferably in a high technology manufacturing industry. Experience of having performed the duties of a proposal manager on at least five proposals (winning at least three of the five.) OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Significant participation experience on winning proposal teams a must; preferably on programs with contract values up to £100M
