Our client is one of Europe's leading independent technology centres for the design, engineering, test and development of automotive and propulsion systems, and a pioneer of low carbon technologies. They are looking for a Principal Engineer (Special Projects) to join their dynamic engineering team based in Bedfordshire. This is a permanent position offering a competitive salary and generous benefits package. The Principal engineer will provide senior, technical support and direction to Special projects. Roles and Responsibilities: Provide point of contact for technical issues to Customers Provide point of contact for technical issues for all relevant departments Consider both technical and commercial aspects for new programmes and projects Support the business development team in the creation of technical data to support the bid process and proposal writing Support the BD team in new business acquisition, attending meetings where required to win new business Chair technical review meetings with customers Working with the BD team and department heads to define new product propositions. Ensure product design reflects the volume and pricing of the proposed product or service Liaise with suppliers to ensure their adherence to and compliance with quality standards. Ensure BOM is kept up to date and that discrepancies and modificarions are fed back via the engineering change meeting Ensure that decision agreed in the engineering change meeting are realised Ensure compliance of the team with the systems and procedures in place. Support and develop the attitude of continuous improvement across the technical functions Ensure that all production and aftersales documentation required is developed and maintained in accordance with the programmes. Ensure that requirements for Safety cases are understood and compliant to the requirements of the customer. Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent to Mechanical or Electrical/Electronics Engineering Managing team of engineers to deliver automotive conversion programmes Customer and user engagement Building and maintaining and customer relationships Detailed knowledge of vehicle systems, legislative requirements and equipment supplier capabilities. PC skills including but not limited to CAD, MS Office Excellent time management and organizational skills Able to prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines without supervision Excellent communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence at all levels Problem solving and proven people management skills. Ability to work under pressure to short deadlines Results orientated Flexible approach to working hours Strong team player, resourceful and self-sufficient Flexibility to travel within UK and overseas as and when required Full UK driving licence Hold UK DBS National Security vetting 'SC' or 'DV' or have held it previously.
